Oroonoko

Standard

In class we have just finished our reading and analysis of the novel “Oroonoko, or the Royal Slave”, by Aphra Behn. I must say that this one is being put on my favorites list.

Lets start with the basics. Aphra Behn was one of the first female professional English literary writers, so high five to her. The story follows an apparent true account about an African prince turned slave (Oroonoko) and his dear sweet love (Imoinda).

The book dwells on the themes of love, lies, ignorance, and race. All of these are strongly attached to our lives today.

This is a story worth looking for.
